Tin Zinc Plating Solution
Our
latest development in alloy plating solutions is one that plates 70% tin and
30% zinc. Our tin zinc alloy plating solution is an environmentally friendly
alternative to cadmium plating. It is two to three times more effective than
cadmium and up to ten times better than zinc. The picture opposite
illustrates the effectiveness of the process. Tin/zinc can also serve as a
base coat for gold when plating on to steel and iron parts. Tin/zinc plates
dull, but can easily be polished to high lustre with MetaPrep, MetaPrep
Ultra or the Hand Polishing Kit. Tin/zinc
has the following main advantages:
- An excellent alternative to highly toxic
cadmium.
- Very good corrosion resistance
- Excellent solderability
- Very ductile
- Plates a uniform thickness, even in recesses.

Two sides of a steel knife; one un-plated
(top) the other plated (bottom) with tin/zinc - one half with a gold top
coat. This was corrosion tested for one month. The side which is tin/zinc
plated shows significantly less corrosion. |
