This kit cannot be purchased and shipped outside the UK and the EU because it includes our Rhodium Tank Plating Solution, one of our range of plating solutions that are regulated for transport.

Our Rhodium Plating Kit for tank plating means you can reliably plate rhodium to specific thicknesses, giving you complete quality control over your own rhodium plating. Our Rhodium Plating Solution for tank plating contains 3g of rhodium per litre. To see a project showing how to rhodium tank plate a wedding ring, please click HERE for our Electroplating Manual. This kit (or any of our other kits, equipment or solutions) is not suitable for plating on to aluminium or titanium and therefore can’t be used to plate iPhones and other similar products.
The rhodium plating kit is built around our MF Rectifier Mrk2. It allows you to set the amps before you start plating so that when your work goes in to the plating solution, the plating process starts immediately, rather than you having to turn on the power and then adjust the rectifier to the correct settings. The kit also includes our Economy Plating Rectifier which provides the powered cleaning stage and the Hot Plate Stirrer which keeps the rhodium solution correctly heated and agitated. The Plating Stand, Arm and Boss allow you to easily immerse and retrieve your work from the cleaner and rhodium plating solution. The mesh electrodes completely surround the inside of the plating beakers which means your piece is evenly and speedily rhodium plated. The rinse beakers ensure you don’t cross contaminate your solutions with one another or any other cleaning compounds. All of these important features ensure you get consistent, top quality rhodium plating results.
All tank plating solutions need the occasional filter to keep them in good working order and this kit includes one of filter kits to keep your solution working at its optimum level.
In between uses of your rhodium tank plating solution, it’s a good idea to cover your solution with cling film to stop particles of duct and hair getting in as this will over time shorten the life of your solution. It will also reduce the frequency of having to filter your solution.

Rhodium plating solution is agitated with a magnetic stirrer at the bottom of the beaker during plating.
Mechanical agitation is a safer alternative to air agitation, as it eradicates any risk of the aerosol effect of the rhodium tank plating solution. Mechanical agitation keeps the plating solution moving over the surface of the item being plated in a consistent way, again maximising the efficiency of the tank plating process. Mechanical agitation avoids unnecessary oxidisation of the metal plating solution that air agitation will cause.
Temperature of solutions can be monitored by pointing the probe at the tank, pulling the trigger with the temperature shown on the LED screen.
The temperature of your plating solution can be quickly and accurately monitored without you having to submerge a thermometer into the solution, avoiding contamination of your plating solution.

Maximum Working Internal Dimensions of Plating Beakers
* You need to leave a 10mm gap between the outer edge of the work piece and the Mesh, whatever the size of beaker you are using.

For example, if you are using the 250ml plating beaker your work piece can’t at any point in its width, exceed 44mm and can’t at any point be longer than 70mm.
A key feature of our kits is the flexibility to be customise them by removing items you don’t need or adding extra items from our product range. For example, you may already own a hot plate stirrer, or you may want to you downsize or upsize the plating beaker according to the dimensions of the items you wish to plate. Rhodium Tank Plating Solution
The advertised kit is the 250ml kit. If you want to upsize to the 1 litre kit, you will need to remove the 250ml Plating Beaker, Mesh Electrode for 250ml Beaker, Stirring Bar (Mini) and 250ml of Rhodium Tank Plating Solution from the kit list.
You will then need to add the 1 Litre Plating Beaker, Mesh Electrode for 1 Beaker, Stirring Bar (Medium) and 1 litre of Rhodium Tank Plating Solution.
Items can be removed and added either on our shop page or on the shopping basket prior to checkout.
With our Rhodium Tank Plating Kit, you’ll be able to rhodium plate items of silver or white gold jewellery to specific thicknesses with ease.
We’ve designed the process so that you can pre-programme in the rectifier settings before you start plating. This means that once you start plating you don’t have to adjust the equipment, leaving you free to let the plating get on with itself.
To work out the amp level, multiply the surface area of your work by the plating factor for rhodium, which is 0.02
In this case, we estimated that the surface of the ring was 4.5 cm2
The calculation is therefore 0.02 x 4.5 = 0.09 amps, so the amp setting on the large rectifier needs to be set at 0.09 amp.
Please note: The Rectifier shown in this project has now been discontinued and replaced by the MF Rectifier Mk II.
1. Setting up your Rhodium Tank Plating Kit
Set up the Rhodium Tank Plating Kit as shown. Turn on the Hot Plate Stirrer and bring the temperature of the solution up to 38-42 degrees centigrade and set the stirring function to minimum.
Please bear in mind that the rectifier shown on the main picture has been replaced by the MF Rectifier Mk II.
Please be aware that our Rhodium Tank Plating Solution can only be shipped within the UK and the EU. If you want to order from outside these areas, you might consider ordering our Palladium Tank Plating Kit as palladium plates with a similar whiteness to rhodium and can be shipped anywhere in the world.
2. Connecting the Black Leads
Black leads x 2 (one short, one long) Plug the short black lead into the black socket on the Economy Plating Rectifier and then plug the other end into the black socket on the large rectifier. Take the longer black lead and ‘stack’ it by plugging one end into the back of the black lead you’ve just plugged into the large rectifier. Plug the other end into the socket at the base of the Plating Stand.
3. Connecting the Red Leads
Red leads x2 (one short, one long) Plug the short red lead into the red socket on the Economy Plating Rectifier and then fix a crocodile clip to the other end of the lead and clip it to the mesh on cleaner beaker. Plug the long red lead into the red socket on the large rectifier and clip the other end to the mesh on the rhodium beaker.
4. Setting the MF Rectifier MK II to tank plating mode.

Switch the rectifier on.
5. Setting the amps.
Press and hold the “16v/5A” button until it starts flashing.
Set the amps to 0.09 amps.
Set the maximum volts to between 4.8 and 5.2 volts.
6. Adjusting the voltage for cleaning.
Adjust the voltage on the small rectifier for the cleaner stage to 4.5
7. Power Cleaning
Place the ring in the Cleaner and touch the jigging wire (which is holding the ring) against the crocodile clip. Almost immediately you’ll see bubbles forming, meaning that the Cleaner is getting to work. Leave your work in the Cleaner for 15-30 seconds and you will have a perfectly clean, water-break free surface which is ideal for plating. Once it is clean take it out and dip it in the first and second rinse beakers to thoroughly rinse off the Cleaner. Please see our previous project, ‘Gold Plating a Ring to Vermeil Standard’ for further information on this stage.
8. Rhodium plating
Hang your ring in the rhodium plating solution (check that the solution is at the optimum temperature) and then press the “OUTPUT ON” button which will change from white to green to show the plating tank is powered. The “16v/5A” button will stop flashing.
9. Final rinse stages
Once the plating time is up, turn the output on the rectifier to off and pass the ring through the last two rinse stages.
10. Finished ring
The ring needs no further finishing as our system deposits a durable layer of rhodium that can be easily maintained for many years.
