Clear selection

Acticlean is similar to Activator but provides a mild cleaning action in addition to activating.

It removes oxides and patinas from non-ferrous metals to provide an active surface for electroplating.

You can also use it as a pre-dip for plating ferrous items such as steel and it is ideal as a micro-etchant for zinc to increase adhesion.

In both cases, power can be used (see under Tech Specs tab).

You can use it before brush gold plating on some stainless steels, provided the gold plated layer is no more than 0.5 micron.

Acticlean creates an excellent water break free surface, which is ideal for electroplating. To see for yourself how effective it is, why not take the ActiClean test? Clean one section of your work with ActiClean at 4 – 7 volts and leave the other section untreated, as in the picture above. Run some clean water over the surface of work. Water should run over the ActiCleaned surface without forming water breaks, demonstrating that the surface is completely clean, as in the photo. The water in the untreated area of the photo above has formed into droplets, showing that there are still traces of grease, oxide or tarnish which will greatly inhibit plating. We recommend you use the Carbon Electrode for this process. Features Applications
Quickly removes the oxide layer on the surface of metal Very useful when preparing non-ferrous metals, iron and steel for plating, as these metals form oxide layers on their surfaces
Does not contain hydrochloric acid Does not stain work piece or organic coatings such as paint. A lot more safer to use.
Activates and provides a mild cleaning action on a wide range of metals including nickel No need to keep stock of different activators for different metals.
Separate tanks/beakers Avoid processing both ferrous and non-ferrous items through the same activating solution.
They must be kept separate as copper can immersion deposit on ferrous items causing poor adhesion.
