Our green gold mixer is part of our coloured metal mixing system. There are two ways of mixing our coloured metal mixers – either by weight or by volume. If you want to use the former method, you’ll need to use a set of scales, whereas with the volume method you can measure out using our syringes. How to use this calculator :

1. In the first box, enter the shade and karat value of gold that you wish to mix.

2. In the second box, choose whether you wish to measure the components of the mixture by volume(V) or by weight (W).

3. In the third box, enter the volume or weight of K-Gold that you wish to mix.

4. Press the ‘Calculate’ button.

5. Read off the amount of mixers to add to your chosen amount of K-Gold.

Notes :

For the Short Swab on a Carbon Electrode, set rectifier to 2.5 volts.

For the Extra Fluffy Swab on a Carbon Electrode, set the rectifier to 3.0 volts.

For the Pointed Nib attached to the Carbon Pen Electrode, set rectifier to 2.7 volts.

Always use a new or nearly new swab for this process.

Use the plating solution within 1 hour of mixing.

When plating on to stainless steel, nickel and its alloys, plate a gold flash layer first.

 

When plating on to stainless steel, nickel and its alloys, first plate a layer of 24 carat gold using Gold Flash.

Notes:

  1. Gold flash or gold strike required if plating any of the above coatings on stainless steel.
  2. We recommend that dull coatings are polished with the Silver and Gold Cloth or for
    coatings in excess of 3 microns, with Autosol followed by Silver and Gold Cloth.
  3. If plating on nickel, a gold flash is recommended.
  4. Gold content (karat value) of the plate increases with increasing voltage.
  5. In mixes that contain both Rose and Green Gold Mixer, the red hue increases with increasing
    voltage. The green hue increases with decreasing voltage.
  6. Ensure the swab is fully saturated with some excess remaining in the beaker prior to commencing plating.
  7. As an example of how quickly gold alloys plate with our K-Gold system, a sterling silver wedding band
    can be plated to 3.3 microns (Vermeil for 18 karat gold) in approximately 12 minutes with 18 karat rose gold.
